Located in south western British Columbia, Corona Creative Crafts produces cedar products primarily for outdoor use in gardens and patios, although a number of our cedar products can be, and indeed are used indoors, thereby bringing the rugged beauty of the British Columbia forests inside. Wherever possible trim ends and rejected lumber from commercial use that would normally go for chipping are utilized in the construction of these cedar products, thus maximizing the usage of material from the trees.

Red Cedar is the natural choice for the outdoors; its tannins resist decay and help prevent insect attacks, which is why we choose this material for our garden and patio products. Whether you choose from our planters, arbours, portable water gardens, trellis, obelisks, birdhouses or feeders or indeed any outdoor or garden item, Red Cedar will bring a natural lustre not duplicated in artificial materials.
Each item in our range of cedar products is individually crafted thus allowing it to exhibit its own unique qualities. Most of our cedar products are produced using Western Red Cedar from the British Columbia coastal wilderness but Yellow Cedar is also used on occasions.

A wide variety of stock items are available and custom work is always welcome. We are a small family company that will give you personalized service, so if you desire the warm, ambience produced by Red Cedar we are the cedar product people to speak to.

The Western Red Cedar is the official tree of British Columbia. Growing in the moist soil of the coastal forests the Western Red Cedar tree is large and may live over a 1000 years. It has drooping branches with scale like leaves bearing a strong aroma. The wood is light, durable and renowned for its resistance to moisture, decay and insect damage, whilst its characteristic grain texture and palette of warm, mellow tones ranging from amber to deep honey brown give cedar products crafted with it their own unique identity.

Red Cedar is a renewable, biodegradable resource. Growing from the earth it is harvested, manufactured into cedar products that are used for decades or even centuries, then after its useful life span is ended it returns to the earth. The sustainable forestry practices employed today ensure a continued abundance of this quality, durable wood.

Historically the Sechelt people of British Columbia call the Western Red Cedar "Tex'emay" meaning, Nature's Store House. The tree provided them with the raw materials needed to live comfortably in the west coast wilderness of British Columbia. Every time they harvested a portion of this multi-purpose tree they whispered a prayer of thanks.

The outer bark was used to make bailers and as fuel, whereas the inner bark was woven into warm soft and water resistant skirts, capes and hats. The wood was carved into masks, totem poles, and dishes and was pried from trunks to make their long houses and roots were woven into water tight baskets whilst the withes were stripped and used as ties.

So, as can be seen the Western Red Cedar is indeed a veritable store house, and cedar products produced from it are valued and prized to this day.
